RE: For all you carpenters

Measure twice, cuss once. I had a heck of time installing crown molding in our house. Seems like every 4 or 5 cuts, the upside down and backwards cuts got the best of me and when I went to put it up had the angle backwards. That gets expensive after while. You have that right. I think crown molding at corner joints with it's compound angles is the trickiest molding to install. I won't even try it. I just use any molding that is flush with both the wall and the ceiling. Guy Crown molding would be much easier if everything was perfect. Not going to happen very many times. chevman

RE: For all you carpenters

All right, how many of you have screwed and cut wrong when it comes to 26" vs. 29" or 36" vs 39 ", etc. ???? Needless to say, today I was Installing laminate flooring ! Guy I know this is true. When you see a carpenter that seems to do great work it is because he has screwed up many times and learned from that experience. PS I was a long cutter but not much. chevman

RE: Anyone pulling over 12K with new Ford 7.3 Gasser?

We had a 2001 8.1 gas engine and 3500 2wd dually. We have a 2005 3500 2wd duramax and have driven on I-84 many time with both trucks. Going down the cabbage hill for 6 miles in Oregon there was no difference in being under control towing the same fifth. chevman

RE: Defunct RV Brand Yakima WA

I never heard it did. I was at the new factory buying a part and they stopped very soon after so I am sure they didn't relocate. chevman

RE: Advice - tires again

I am going to buy a new set for my RAM 3500 SWB 4x4. The Michelin Defenders will be on sale at Costo soon and I am tempted but I checked Walmart and they have the Sailun terramax in the same size (275/70/18) for a lot less. I know Sailun is getting a good rep for trailer tires but how about for truck tires? I have had excellent success with 3 sets of defenders including winter driving. chevman

RE: Burbman Crosses over to the Dark Side....

The Burb has been a trusty TV for many years but sadly she won't carry our truck camper. After launching a nationwide search I was lucky to find our new truck just a few hours away in NJ. Wasn't looking for a diesel initially but hey, it's never too late to try something new! This was a one-owner truck, bought, serviced, and traded in at the same dealer in NJ. 81k miles. Not a speck of rust underneath, not even surface rust on the frame. Clean Carfax, no accidents, no title issues. No signs of mods except the oversized tires and tinted windows (dealer removed tint so I could pass inspection). So here is our new-to-us 2015 Ram 3500 4x4 Laramie Crew Cab Long Box with Cummins diesel. Here is the window sticker from when it was new. width=640 So I guess it's time to sell the Burb. They are super rare to find with the 8.1 anymore. the BIG question is what to do about my screen name here....LOL You are a silly feller. You bought a truck you like and nothing dark about this story. Just remember what fuel it likes to enjoy. chevman

RE: Best Fiver these days

I “must” take a differing view on Lippert frames! They “may” build to the manufacuring specifications.....but, they have been plagued with quality control issues. These issues have “zero” to do with manufacturing specifications!!! memtb I have thought this for years. Can't believe a spec would ask for a frame that would have bad welds etc. chevman

RE: TIres, looking for long wearing, all weather load range E

I have a friend with 2 sets of michelin tires on his ram and both cracked very early. I am on our 2nd set with no cracks on the first or the tires on the truck now. I know of many MH michelin tires that looked like a dry desert. Nothing is perfect. chevman

RE: Differential fluid change

I have a drain plug at the bottom with a magnet. 108 K miles on truck diff has been changed 12 times. So easy to do for me so why not. chevman Say wut? If you change the gear oil every oil change interval, how often do you change the engine oil? Are you the guy who changes trans fluid after every road trip, or was that someone else on here? Not me on the trans fluid but my usual oil change has been below 7000 per year. Once went to 11200 and still the lab said go farther but it was a goof up for me and never let that happen again. Truck sits in the garage all summer for 6 months and 6 months each winter towing to Az.It might be a garage queen for a long time since we will hit the road Wednesday for the last trip home. The party is over and it was a dandy. chevman

RE: Banks Electronic Exhaust Brake

On our combined weight of 22920 lbs our 05 does a great job holding back on the downhills. Hope to in a few days to be on the road to wa st and will do the cabbage patch hill for the last time. Never had any issues being under control on any hill. I like simple and I have that. chevman PS might get my wife back tomorrow maybe.

RE: Solar Firm Claims It Has An Electric 700-mile SUV

Triton Solar, formerly known as Solyndra, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fly by night Enterprises made this announcement today in hopes of receiving their buyout offer from Elon Musk,,,,,,, ;) But the 7700lb weight will make it a great Prius crusher. Wasn't it Solyndra the shovel ready that wasn't ready. I remember who wanted that to happen. chevman
