RE: Vault Toilet Decorations

Just one more reason why we never camp in "campgrounds" and it's why I bought a truck camper with 4 wheel drive. We enjoy our solitude.

RE: Sanitizing water system

We fill with highly chlorinated Seattle city water. We drink water from the tank, been doing it for years-no problemo. Warning, the following is just my opinion: "If you don't exercise your immune system, it will atrophy like any unused muscle or organ".

RE: Cross winds

Never take shelter from a storm below an overpass. It's the worst place you could be in high winds.

RE: Looking at using the Fantastic Fan while in storage

We left our camper in storage in North Fort Myers from Novenber until April. I left the pass through window and a roof vent open thinking that natural convection would keep it ventilated. Bad idea. When we went to pick it up, there was mildew everywhere. Ventilation is no good in such a warm humid environment. You need to dehumidify the air inside somehow. Back home in Seattle I keep it closed up and use a couple of Dri-Z-Air units inside to keep it dry. Change them out once a month.

RE: Isotherm fridge in camper?

4 cu ft would never do it for us. Especially with that tiny little freezer compartment.

RE: Web site problem

It's called Server Overload. Too many of us with nothing to do but look at RV.NET. Just have to be more patient or do your surfing in the wee hours.

Long distance travel during the virus pandemic

Anyone traveled long distance recently in an RV? My wife and I need to get back home to Seattle, WA from South Florida in our truck camper. I know many(most?) campgrounds are closed but we are pretty self sufficient and willing to boondock every night. My concern is finding dump stations that are still open and finding potable water fill up places. Also some states have quarantine requirements for visitors, do you think this applies to someone who is just quickly passing through in an RV? Anyone have recent experience in these trying times? Any advice appreciated. Thank you and stay safe. -Mark.

RE: self driving sooner than we think!

But they may well be closer to perfect than human drivers.

RE: Water pump problem Winnebago Sunova

If the wires connect to your pump with those push onto a blade type connectors there may be a bad connection at that point due to corrosion. Try sliding the connector off and then back onto the blade several times also wet it with contact cleaner if available. I have had that problem and if that's what it is then it's an easy fix.

RE: Here we go again yet another Trombetta "Big Boy" failure!

I had 3 different brands of so called smart relays to charge my truckcamper house batteries from my truck only when the engine was running. They all failed in different ways The last one was a Cole-Hersey which failed closed while the truck was shut down with the camper off the truck. It drained both chassis batteries and the solenoid was smoking hot. Fortunately this happened while I was home. No more automatic (smart??) relays for me. I'll use a manual disconnect from now on. My solar will keep the house batteries charged up most of the time anyway.

RE: Northern Lite truck to camper cord

K5kid, you can raise and lower it with the handcrank on each jack, one at a time. Just be careful to do it somewhat evenly on each corner. -Mark.

RE: NEED HELP MECHANICAL ISSUE (possibly transmission)

I used to have a 79 Winny on a dodge chassis like you have. If you look closely where the rod along the steering column connects to the pivot point at the lower end there is an offset pin which goes into a bushing. This bushing wears until the hole is too big to allow proper movement to the arm on the transmission. The solution is to replace the bushing. I had to make one out of a piece of steel tubing. You'll probably need help. I would try a Dodge dealer or a good independent shop. Good luck. -Mark.

RE: Mh propane capacity discrepency

Quite often you are getting a blend of propane and butane. Butane while richer in energy (BTU's) boils at a lower temperature therefore the pressure at any given temperature will be lower than propane. If you fill at a place very far south in the wintertime you may have a butane rich gas that will not have enough vapor pressure if you drive far north to use it. This has happened to people who fill in Mexico and then drive to high altitude in January.

RE: Solar and Charger into one?

I never go on the road without triangles AND flares and I don't even tow. Have used them a few times for other folks in trouble. -Mark.

RE: Why aren't Truck Campers popular in W. Pa.?

I have a Northern Lite 10-2 on a GMC 3500. When I weighed it ready to camp, the stock rear wheels and tires were right at the limit. I had to go to 19.5's to feel safe. It handles well now, no more sway. Most truck sway is in the sidewalls of the tires. No way would I use a 3/4 ton to carry most of the campers out there. In fact, I don't know why they even make 3/4 ton trucks. Either get a real truck or a little grocery-getter 1/2 ton. Sorry, but I'm rather highly opinionated. I guess that's an understatement. Only my opinion, didn't mean to offend anyone.

RE: Best Fuel Preservative for Pure Gas ???

Your math is off. At one half of one percent you will have 6.4 ounces of water in 80 gallons.

RE: Air conditioner noise reduction

My wife finally started sleeping with ear plugs and an eye mask. It has saved our marriage. She couldn't tolerate any light or sound, now she's oblivious and sleeps soundly. Happy wife, happy life.

RE: Atwood Thermostat HFH2000

I use Costco alkaline batteries for my thermostat and remote temp thermometers. Change them once a year. No problems, even with the temp sensor in the freezer. They always work fine.

RE: Recs for Solar Cut Off Switch?

I used a Blue Sea battery switch from West Marine in the positive wire between the panels and the controller. Made a sign near the batteries to shut off this switch prior to disconnecting batteries.
