RE: Route and Campgrounds from Orlando to Las Vegas

Did this twice crossing the country. I do pay attention to the weather. I will take a day or two longer if necessary to avoid really bad weather. I went north and then east and then south to avoid high winds, tornadoes, and very heavy rain once. I took off early and just beat a front that had tornadoes that hit where I was staying two hours later.

RE: Fulltiming Coming to an End, But Travelling Is Not

We owned a class c, fifth wheel, and now a class a. My wife finds that the class a seat is much more comfortable as well as the ride. This is a diesel pusher. That being said, you really need to go and look, sit, and then drive to see what is the most comfortable for her. What is good for one may not be for another.

RE: Las vegas

Oasis RV Park and Resort. A nice RV park just south of the strip. You don't here gun fire like on the Bolder Highway.

RE: Handling “hard dried stuff” in the black tank ?

You can, if you have time, put a quart of home septic tank treatment in the tank with a quarter fill of water. Let it sit for two weeks and drive. You could add the ice and then drive, but all that enzyme treatment should have eaten it all up. Did this to a fully clogged tank and it was so clean the OEM tank level system worked for the next five trips like it did when new.

RE: dryer

What make and model? It could be a belt or the control board.

RE: 50A Power Cord Reel

Had a power reel in my fifth wheel. No room in the class A. Wish we had one. You have to make sure that the connections in the center of the reel are tight. If not, they can heat and char, or you can get an imbalance voltage with a loose neutral. Don't as me why I know. Other than that they are great. I could operate it by myself. Life could not be better with 50A cord especially when it is stiff and cold. You will enjoy it.

RE: Exterior Caulking

I would call Heartland with the last six digits of your vin number to find out what calking the factory uses. If it has silicone in it, Nothing will stick until all has been removed. There are products that can remove the bond that silicone has. I have done it.

RE: Tires: Date Code approaching 10 yrs. Toyo or Yokohama?

Les Swab had the exclusive North West Dealer agreement with Toyo. Apparently it ran out and was not renewed with Les Swab. Les Swab still sells Toyo tires, but may prefer to sell another brand.

RE: roof replace or coat?

If I was going to keep my rig, RV FlexArmor is the only one I would put on. Many locations, but only in the us. Snow birds could do it once you could cross the border.

RE: 5er accidents

And spend some safety money and get disk brakes. I don't care how you keep up and adjust the dog gone shoe brakes they are not anywhere near disk brakes for stopping a fifth wheel. When I changed out our shoes for disk it was a big wow moment.

RE: Wanted - Fresh Water Hose for "Olds"

I use Greenleaf garden hose couplers. They do not leak and used several years now. Tractor supply has the best prices. Greenleaf - Tractor Supply

RE: General Sherman Giant Tree

It is amazing standing near General Grand and General Sherman. One branch fell years ago, and I think the sign that was posted said it could have built a 2000 sq ft home. Sequoia trees once covered Nevada and other states. Weather changes do to the Himalayas rising in altitude caused the earths weather pattern to change. The US west turned to desert and south east Asia desert turned to rain forest.

RE: Leave propane on while driving?

That is why I made sure to have a stick and brick refrigerator in my motor home. It cools much better than the gas/electric in the slide of the old fifth wheel and does not have to be turned off while filling up. When gas/electric refrigerators are not in a slide, they do a much better job staying cold in the heat.

RE: Down Sizing

You also have to watch how much weight you put in it. If you have anything but a stripped model, all the upgrades weight will not be subtracted from the advertised amount of weight you can carry.

RE: Trailer Life Forum going belly up?

I loved Trailer Life, but RV is a big disappointment. At first I thought it was starting simple for a lot of newbies since RV sales were through the roof. As each issue has progressed, it is nothing but a big flop. They need to rehire all the old staff and publish a real RV magazine again. I will let my subscription run out as well.

RE: RV campground closing

It will close when the lease is up on the property. Apparently the land will be part of Costa Vista. A one billion dollar hotel and convention center and RV park. Guess how much a spot in the new park will cost?
