RE: Remembering my best physical condition

I am pretty lucky. I worked fairly hard all of my life and retired at 70, now I am 77. I am not as agile or strong as I once was but still able to do about what I want to. Last weekend, I cleaned all the eves troughs on our house, got up on the gable of the house and did a little work on the TV antenna, and then put up my outside Xmas lights. I was pretty tired and sore when I was done but I was able to do it and was fine the next morning. I feel very fortunate to be this way at my age, unfortunately my wife is not so lucky but I still have her after 59 years! :)

RE: Is travelling through the states safe re: Covid?

I would bring my vaccination cards with me and get a booster shot if you can. Stay away from crowds and wear a mask if in doubt. I can't help as far as crossing the border I would check with the authorities about that. They say cases are on the rise in the states but with vaccination and precautions, I would not be afraid to travel. Good luck and best wishes!

RE: Winter battery maintenance

I agree with Fisherman, my batteries are 10 years old and still going. I credit the battery maintainers with the long life. I have antique cars and also keep maintainers on them and have very good luck with long life batteries in them too!

RE: What's a reasonable towed vehicle?

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. Have owned it since almost new. Just put the transmission in park, the transfer case in neutral, and the ignition key in the tow position. That is all there is to it. The Jeep now has 130K miles on it and has been the most trouble free vehicle I have ever owned. I keep it just to tow behind the MH, have a Lincoln MKC for the good car and the Jeep has very little value. If you can find a good used older Jeep they are not worth a lot and are a great towed.

RE: Hydraulic stabilizers down during storage

I think mice are far more likely to climb up the tires and wheels to the axles than to try to climb up a slippery stainless steel shaft.

RE: Winter battery maintenance

I keep all of my batteries that are not used much on battery maintainers, it seems like they last a lot longer if kept fully charged at all times! I do not take them out in the winter.

RE: Gas prices

It didn't stop us the last time gas was $4 or more per gallon and it wouldn't stop us now, but, health has. That is much worse than a few bucks more for gas!!!

RE: Rv specific soap and waxes

Yes, definitely use car wash soap not dish soap. Dish soap will take what ever wax you have off while most car was soaps are designed not to do that. I never use dish soap on my vehicles.

RE: Winterizing Issue

That sounds backwards to me.I am pretty sure that on mine I have to have the valve on city water. If I put it on fresh water tank it fills the tank instead of going to all of the water lines.

RE: HWH series 200 pump motor runs but jacks and slide dont move

These motors can be reversed, be certain the motor is turning the correct rotation. Thank you thank you!!! Reversed the wires and it WORKS!!!!!!:B Congrats, you got good help from Tom/Barb!

RE: New motor home blues…

I certainly understand that. They should reimburse you for your expenses but I am sure they will not do that. It seems like I hear of a lot of new motor homes that cause a lot of problems!

RE: WINDSHIELDS ... for older Class As ? ......

It shouldn't be a problem, your insurance company should find a replacement.

RE: New motor home blues…

I understand your frustration! Surely the water heater is under warranty? Sounds like it all should have been except the gen set oil change.

RE: RV Life unexpectedly comes to a sudden end!

Downunda, I feel your pain, we are 77 and my wife's health is getting worse and worse. She has multiple problems and walks with a walker so it is hard for her to get in and out of the motor home. I am not ready to sell it but it is 20 years old with low miles and in good shape but not worth a lot of money. Since I have indoor storage for it and don't need the money I think I will keep it in hope to use it again. It is scary to have health problems or mechanical problems like you did so I certainly understand your position! I guess we should be thankful for all of the good times we have had!!! Best wishes, Ed

RE: Land border closed to Canada

I think that people should be vaccinated going both ways, other than that just open the north border!

RE: Any 80mph PLUS - class Aers still on here ?

I usually set my cruise on 65, have gone 75 or better a few times but not for long. I would hate to blow a tire at even 65 let alone 80 mph! To each is own.

RE: Do you always need an RV Park ? .....

WOW, we have been camping since the 1960's, tent, fold down, pickup camper, 3 class C's and 2 class A's, have stayed at Flying J twice because we had no choice. Not rich but would much prefer to stay in an RV park or a camp ground! Walmart would be an emergency for us!

RE: Leave propane on while driving?

I run the refrigerator while traveling and even filling up. The refrigerator is 5 feet off of the ground and on the opposite side of the MH from the gas filler. In winter I have even ran the furnace while traveling but would not fill with gas while it or the water heater is running, they are much lower than the refrigerator and the furnace is in the rear not so far from the gas fill.

RE: giving it up

I sure understand but glad you can still enjoy a cabin in a campground! At 77, I am in pretty good shape but my wife has multiple health issues and walks with a walker 90% of the time. I am not ready to sell our motor home but we didn't use it at all last year and this year we used it 3 nights at a nearby camp ground for a family reunion. We wanted to take it to Montana to visit my wife's sister but I am afraid the wife's health is just not good enough to make the trip. The MH sits inside and is in very good shape with 30K miles on it but it is 20 years old so it is not worth a lot so I think we will just keep it and hope we can use it again!
