RE: Solo fire pit

We've got one. It's a very small one since we take it in our Class B. Our model is the Campfire. We can use it to cook over and just have fun - using mostly twigs and sticks to burn. We didn't buy any accessories.
They really do work as advertised - I actually first saw one on a youtube channel where the guy was cooking over it using a tripod and cast iron dutch oven - it was a Ranger.
They are well made from stainless steel and engineered to be pretty much smokeless. The way the air is fed into them is unique and you can have a roaring fire within minutes. Then when there are just cold ashes left you tip it over and dump them out - that's it for cleanup.
Don't know any cons...

RE: My Chevrolet Express van Class B- camper

^^
Those are really neat -I've got a hiking stick/monopod with a strap just like those - only not handmade. Just got a mount for my phone for Christmas which I use to take panoramic videos...
Great job!

RE: Anode rod help

Thanks to everyone for the replies.
We do drain it when not using and we use a magnesium rod. I learned those things here - we used to have an aluminum rod and it never wore out.
So - we won't worry that it will break off in the water heater - very good to know!

Anode rod help

I'm still new to this anode rod business as we've always had an Atwood water heater...
So tell me - is this normal and should it be replaced now?

We're afraid that it will keep getting thinner at that one spot and then fall off in the water heater. Is that possible?

RE: Keeping fridge door open while in storage

When I leave my AZ home for the summer, I fill the refrigerator and freezer with crumpled up brown paper and keep the door shut after thoroughly cleaning and drying it. Been doing it for years. Leaving the door open when it's hot (I leave the A/C on 88 degrees F) can dry out the gasket if the door is left open.
In my RV I leave my refrigerator running all the time but if I were to leave it off, I'd do the same.
This works. I tried various things with the fridge in my Texas room. I used the clamps to keep it open and it warped the gasket. So then I just left the door open all the way and it warped the door a bit. Found drying out the fridge really well and closing the door worked. I added crumbled up newspaper to catch any residual moisture, but this works great and keeps the door in the proper position to avoid warping or gasket problems.
DaleI have to agree with this. It is definitely better for the seal for the door to be closed. My fridges are never musty when opened in the spring.

RE: Level rv-refrigerator

Modern absorption reffigerators tolerate 3 degree side to side, 7degree front to rear off level for extended times without harm. If you can walk in the unit without troubles, your fridge is fine.
There was a time when perfectly level was critical, no more.
Well, what does "modern" mean? What's the cutoff year that makes it not so critical?

RE: Oil changes with synthetic

"Loving the replies" - So you're trolling?
I was thinking the same thing. No one here is going to change his mind.
He already knew what the replies were going to be before he ever posted the question.
OP here again...
Wow - sorry guys. Because I'm happy to hear what you all think I'm a troll? We never did synthetic oil before. Just wanted informed information on how to do it. I trusted you guys here on RV.net.
Seriously - not a troll, just wanted information. We've used regular motor oil before this and thought that synthetic would be better and we wouldn't need to change it so often.
Carry on...

RE: Oil changes with synthetic

OP here again... Loving the replies.
As to cold weather starts - doesn't happen. It's kept in a garage with no starts over the winter. I know folks will come in and say you have to start your engine every month or so to keep the seals moist or whatever... But - our 1984 Bronco also has never been started in the winter and so far so good.
Thanks for all the input - feeling better about our plan to not do it every year.

RE: Oil changes with synthetic

OP here - thanks guys for the replies!
I think I see the reasoning for every year if you don't put too many miles on - thinking that the driving is all short duration...
Our 3000 miles are all trips - long distance highway miles. I think we should be safe with every 2 years.
Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Oil changes with synthetic

How often do you change your oil if you use full synthetic oil?
We have a Chevy 6.0 gasoline engine. We are putting Mobil 1 synthetic oil into it and are finding differing requirements. Some say go by miles, others say if you don't put on that many miles change it every year.
We only drive it 2000 to 3000 miles per year. Can we really wait for 7000 miles or more to change it or should it be done every year?
My thinking is why go synthetic if you have to do it every year anyway?

RE: Favorite travel game

Thanks much for the ideas! We'll definitely stock up on a few different ones.
Any game has to be small since we have one small game shelf in our B. (No corn hole, or jarts...) :)
Edit - looking in our game drawer at home I found a card game called Five Crowns and a couple of bags of dominoes. Looks like we'll have to get our old brains learning how to play these...

Favorite travel game

What is your favorite travel board game? So far all we play is Rummy with cards - looking into Parcheesi or something similar that folds up smallish for travel. We like to play at the picnic table in the evenings - with a fire, or not...
Any ideas?

RE: RVing to Washington DC

Greenbelt Park looks interesting, but reviews are mostly poor, although many of them were old. It recently reopened after road repair/maintenance. Has anyone been there lately? Location and price certainly look good.Don't know if anyone responded about this since there are a few more pages to go... We went there a few years ago - in April - there was no electric and it was dark, dense, wet. The air smelled moldy - really. Didn't even stay one night.
I agree with Cherry Hill. Spend the money and enjoy your time.

RE: Where is EVERYONE??

Well - I check in every morning looking for someone saying something. I don't have much to say myself as our B is tucked away for the winter. Even during the season I haven't said much as I mostly come here to respond to someone who needs help. I'm thinking a lot of B folks have been around for a while (we've tried all the other RVs and finally came to the RV that is best) who pretty much know what they're doing and don't need to come here for help.
I guess I could've posted when I installed a couple of hooks to hang hats, shirts, etc. I could've taken some pictures and talked about it. Wasn't that exciting...

RE: Ever hear of this camping company? Harvest Host

We don't belong, but have met and heard of lots of people that HH works well for. It's kind of instead of a Walmart parking lot - just for overnight, but much nicer surroundings and friendly atmosphere.
