RE: Anyone towing 5er with 6.7 ctd Ram 2500 short bed ???

Just one more try. The Ram has 6500 gawr rear axle and I am proposing an Andersen hitch in existing puck system.

Anyone towing 5er with 6.7 ctd Ram 2500 short bed ???

I am considering a 5er with dry pin weight of 2090lbs,11,000 dry weight and 6'4" bed on 2016 Ram 2500. I understand the payload numbers problem but I am looking for reasonable real RVers experience and advice with this combo. No plans for full time and can only estimate I travel with 1000 lbs gear. How much does 500 lbs in front pass through storage, 2 propane and battery (150lbs) add to pin. About half the weight? Thanks.

RE: Should I consider an onboard air pump??

My sentiments exactly. I may get a viair 12 volt pump for trailer tires too. The bid for bags and pump was over 1900 installed at a local truck accessory shop.

Should I consider an onboard air pump??

I am considering a FW with a pin weight of 2000 lbs. My vehicle is a 2016 Ram 2500 diesel with a rear axle of 6500 gawr. I plan on installing firestone air ride bags. My question is how practical is the extra expense for blue tooth controlled pump when the use is seasonal and not daily movement??.

RE: 2016 Ram short bed 6.7 diesel 2500 payload close to max

As the OP I want to thank all of you for your input. I looked over all my research material and found that my answer was 1 line above in the 2016 brochure. I found that the 2010 pound remaining payload left on my 2500 6.7 Cummins is a penalty for having diesel power. The same 10000 gvwr 2500 truck with a 6.4 Hemi V8 has a payload of 900 lbs more. The front and rear axles are the same 6000/6500.So my penalty is having a Cummins that weighs 900 more lbs. Causing such a low payload. Ironically the 6.4 Hemi pulls 1600 less so there you have it. Not a 3500/2500 discussion but a screwy rating that is penalized by a much more capable engine. I have my answer.

RE: 2016 Ram short bed 6.7 diesel 2500 payload close to max

It just so hard to buy the FW and THEN find out it does or doesn't do the job. I understand the 3500 is a leaf spring vs 2500 coil spring but ut seems like a gamble I may take. Thanks for the advice.

RE: 2016 Ram short bed 6.7 diesel 2500 payload close to max

I'm lost now. My door sticker says axle gaw front 6000 an rear 6500. Must I weigh the empty truck to get unladen weight?

RE: 2016 Ram short bed 6.7 diesel 2500 payload close to max

Love the 337 Grand Design, but not enough to trade my 2016 Ram with 43k for a 3500. Thanks much for the advice.

RE: 2016 Ram short bed 6.7 diesel 2500 payload close to max

Tire sticker says 2021. Ram Brochure says 2310. Grand Dedign spec says 2090.

2016 Ram short bed 6.7 diesel 2500 payload close to max

I have the above tow vehicle and am lookong to trade up to a Grand Design with a pin weight of 2100 out of 2400 of trucks rated payload. Is this enough of a margin for added personal effects in trailer ,or am I pushing the limit too close??

Recurring Roadside yearly bill.

I will not be renewing because you only offer the tow plan for $119.00 ONLY IF YOU AGREE TO SUBSEQUENT YEARLY AUTO CHARGES, otherwise it is more. I don't agree to recurring charges on any product. If you can offer the service only when you leave a credit card on file, it costs you no more to renew on a credit card each year when offered. It's not a matter of retention as I have been with the service for over ten years.
