RE: Heading back to Michigan from Quartzsite mid-March?

Morning all!! As the subject states, my wife and I are currently planning on heading back to Michigan mid-March from Quartzsite. We will more than likely be taking I-10E to US70 --> US52 (to avoid ALBQ NM), up to I40 E. Question I have is regarding RV parks that time of year. Am I going to have a problem finding a campground that is open? Being from Michigan most parks are not open until April/May. Not being from the West side of the country, am I going to have a problem finding places to stay on our way home? Any help/suggestions always welcome, Hope everyone's winter is going well! DR i assume you'll pick up I-40 east of ABQ but I-40/I-44 split off at OK City. I-44 heads east to St. Louis while I-44 heads towards Memphis. years ago we used to head towards AZ from metro Chicago along I-40/44 in early-to-mid march and had no trouble finding a spot once we crossed from IL to MO. there WAS a nice park in Effingham IL but it went downhill fast but then we haven't stopped in for maybe 10-years. our fav spots once you are east of ABQ are the 270 Lakeside Park in St. Peters, MO (along I-270), Big Red Barn in Carthage, MO (along I-44) and Twin Fountains RV Park in OK City.

RE: What Would Happen If?

Some junk mail contains your personal info that can be used to steal your identity so be careful just tossing it in the trash. My other pet peeve is the junk mail solicitations for donations that contain "freebies" of return address labels. Who uses them anymore? All my bills are paid electronically so I almost never mail anything. And you can't shred those, the sticky paper will gum up the shredder. not every bill can be paid electronically and stuff other than those few bills still has to be mailed…greeting cards, actual letters to folks who don’t do e-mail and so on. we don’t use many return address labels but we do use them. you’re right about shredding them. we just tear the excess labels into pieces.

RE: What Would Happen If?

OK, it's a pain getting all this junk mail, I agree, but what's the major problem, instead of worrying about returning it, it's much easier to just toss it in the trash unopened, end of problem. agree. we've tried siging up with the DMA (see earlier post) and that did work...for a short time. so we just shred anything with our names on it (mostly charities that we support...always asking for more. the rest goes into recycling.

RE: What Would Happen If?

I will stuff all of the material in the envelope that was sent to including the printed form with my name and take a sharpie and circle my name & address and then write on the side to "kindly remove me from your mailing list." They pay for the postage and generally get the hint. too much effort. i just shred it without opening it.

RE: What Would Happen If?

Returning unsolicited mail that reg applies to unsolicited obscene mail, not routine unsolicited mail. we've never received anything obscene.

RE: WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF?

You can opt out of unsolicited mail to your address through the post office. how?

RE: pocket knife

Always have and still do! me as well. funny...when we toured the studios of QVC i was forced to surrender that most dangerous weapon before being allowed in the building. a few days later when we toured the Norfolk VA naval base i offered to surrender my knife bit was told toput it back in my pocket. go figure.

RE: Any Benefits to 30amp to 50amp

Rookie RVer :C here! Are there any benefits to plugging my 30amp (using an adapter of course) into a 50amp? When I have the option at campgrounds to plugging into either 30amp or 50amp I’ve been purposely plugging into 50amp with the belief it’s more stable. not sure what you mean by 'stable'. when we had a 30-amp MH we would occasionally plug into the 50-amp hookup when/if the 30-amp receptacle had visible damage, was loose in the box, etc. IMO beyond that there is no practical difference. we have run into a small number of parks that forbid the practice of plugging into the 50-amp with an adapter. I'm sure there is a reason for that but I've never heard it.

RE: T or C, NM to Bisbee, AZ via I-10 and Hwy 80

Thank you for the reply and the info. I'm running into the same thing. I can't find this supposed low clearance area, but I definitely want to avoid it. It doesn't look like there are many options for routing around it. OTR trucks must be getting into Bisbee. Consult a trucker's road atlas.

RE: Water leak

either a leak in the fresh water piping or from your gray or black tank. dab a drop or two on your finger and do a sniff test. betcha it's from the fresh system.

RE: Calculated MPG

Have read a number of posts, in different site forums, describing posters hand calculating their mileage. Some post that they record details at every gas-up and have kept meticulous records since they purchased their trailer/fifth wheel (for years), to show the exact MPG. I suppose I can understand doing so for a short time after acquiring a particular truck/trailer combo, to then know that combo's MPG, in various conditions. But, what is the purpose of going beyond that nice to know? And, has doing so caused anyone to change their driving habits or impacted a decision to choose a particular route to their destination? Just curious. Marv i 've been noting the odometer mileage on our gas purchase receipts for, well, forever. why? i like knowing. but then i was that kid who kept a ledger for his allowance. :B

RE: Broke down on the road, what's your insurance experience?

Just wondering what your experience has been. I have a RV rider on my policy, but they just say save your receipts and turn them in for reimbursement. I am curious as to how you even know who to call when you are broke down in the middle of no where. It can be even worse if no cell phone service and its after closing time. Not looking for horror stores, just how did you get taken care of. I know many have AAA or Good Sam, is that the best way to go? we've had GoodSam ERS for 30+years and that should tell you that we are pleased with it. But...we haven't had to use it for 7 or 8-years. when we have used it is has been good. no cell coverage? that's one reason we has a toad.

RE: Some EV charging considerations…

... Most EVs are within 100 feet of the main charging source vs more than a mile for an ice. How many ice cars burn up per year? Only 150,000. statistical sources, please.

RE: winter camping advice

Living is most RVs, in Winter, in northern Michigan, is probably not the best plan. While you may keep warm, with a specialized edition RV, sweat/moisture will be a problem too. I'd consider an apartment, to be a better choice. Jerry THIS! ^^^^^^^^

RE: Trouble finding alcohol free RV antifreeze this season?

ok...we need clarificafiom. OP....are you looking for engine anti-freeze or anti-freeze for the RV's fresh water system? pretty sure the latter is vegetable based.
