RE: Windows license scam

This is one of the funniest responses to a telemarketing call I have ever heard. I just wish I was that quick on my feet when they do call...Telemarketer

RE: MCD Electric Windshield Shade Won't Retract

MCD is located about 5 miles from us in McKinney, TX. I had to take some shades over to be repaired and the guy that helped me was awesome. He did the repair right there at the door entrance, on the floor, so that I could see how they went together. I would strongly recommend you give them a call and ask them. They are helpful and friendly. Their number is (800) 804-1757. Give them a call and ask away. Scott

RE: Question about max 5th wheel size in Apgar, Glacier NP

*25 sites can accommodate up to a 40 foot RV or truck and trailer combination. Your Truck and 36' trailer are going to be longer then 40' Yes, I saw that, too. But, I have also seen websites with photographs are large rigs in there. Trying to identify which ones to go after first, when we get there. As a backup, we have reservations for 10 nights just outside of the entrance at that new RV park in West Glacier. Scott

Question about max 5th wheel size in Apgar, Glacier NP

Hello all - We have a trip already planned out to the nth detail for us to visit the Tetons and Durango, CO starting on the 10th of June and returning home on the 30th of June. However, I just found out that my wife will have some more free time before we leave (I'm semi retired). I have not been able to find any campgrounds in or around the Tetons or Yellowstone for the week before the 10th of June. However, we have visited Glacier NP a couple of times a few years ago, but with a slightly shorter unit. Our coach now is a 36' HitchHiker Champagne. I know that Apgar is still on a first come / first serve basis and that getting there early is key. My question is, are there spaces that anyone can recommend that will specifically hold our unit and truck? Looking for actual campsite numbers that folks are familiar with. Your help is greatly appreciated. Oh, and one more thing. I recall having a rather difficult time making the u-turn at the end of a couple of loops due to trees close to the road. Are there any loops that I absolutely should NOT go down? We do dry camp and need a generator loop. Thanks again for any help provided! Scott

RE: New Full Body Paint Job

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. We really are proud of it and appreciate all of the support that we receive on this forum. I just got the tires/rims back from polishing yesterday. I also spoke with a very nice person at HiSpec wheels about the unique hubcaps on them. He confirmed that they too were HiSpec and so I ordered four new ones to replace the fading/cracking chrome ones that are on there ($21/each). We should be good to go for 10 more years! I even bought a new truck just to pull this beast! Will post pictures of our travels to the Tetons and Durango in the next few weeks. Scott

RE: New Full Body Paint Job

Mike does a great job. You need to post it on the NuWa owners forum. Thanks. I finally figured out how to host photos and link them so I posted it on the NuWa forum yesterday. I also sent a picture of it to Mike Mitchell and he responded with a very nice email about how he loves it when HitchHiker owners take such pride in their coaches. Shame they no longer build new units. Scott

RE: New Full Body Paint Job

Looks great but have you noticed any differance in staying cool with the black? We just had it done over the winter (actually, between Labor Day and Thanksgiving). So, we have only taken it out a few times. The hottest was in Big Bend NP over Spring Break. It did get up to 103 one day, but no, we really didn't notice much in the way of heat build up. We will see this summer when we take it to the Tetons and then down to Durango, CO. I'll post an update on whether it gets hot or not. Scott

RE: New Full Body Paint Job

Thanks to all of you who made such nice comments on it. Yes, it was pricey to have done, but, since we plan to keep it for so long, it made sense to us. The color scheme is actually from DRV Elite Suites. Mike's does all of the full body paint for them and I had them modify the scheme slightly to fit our coach. If you pull up Kona Sands on the Elite Suites website, you can see how similar they are. In fact, I had to get permission from DRV for Mike to be able to replicate it on mine. We think it too looks great and was well worth the money. The other was so faded and cracked (and the roof had been patched due to previous damage) that we just thought if we are going to keep it, we might as well fix it up. Now I am focusing on the interior (when we are not using it). I am redoing the tile backsplash, replacing the existing carpeting with new, replacing the wood floor in the kitchen, updating the bathroom fixtures, etc. I haven't decided if I am going to paint any of the interior cabinets or leave them the existing stained cherry. A lot of units now are coming out with white cabinetry. So, I need to do my research before I go down that path. Will post more photos of it when we go to the Tetons next month and when I really make progress on the interior. Thanks again for all of the kind words! Scott

New Full Body Paint Job

Finally got tired of the old, faded, cracked decals on the fifth wheel. We took it to Mike's Custom Painting in Bremen, IN (just south of South Bend) and he stripped the entire thing then repainted it with a four color paint job and three coats of clear coat. We love the new look! Now we are working on the interior to improve it. We also had the roof replaced at the same time, since it was almost ten years old. We plan to keep it for another ten years or so, then decide what we want to go with in retirement. Here are some before and after photos. Before: width=640 After: width=640 Moderator edit to re-size pictures to forum recommended limit of 640px maximum width.

RE: RV furniture

We replaced our two recliners with two that we purchased at Costco. They came in a box with the backs already off, so getting them through the door was no big deal. They are fabric, but the wood goes well with the rest of the wood in the RV. To keep them from bouncing around, we turn them so that the backs are facing each other and bungee cord them together. They might move an inch or so, but never off of the slide. Scott

RE: Budget temp sensors (data storing)

This is what I use. It shows a high and low temp, along with the current temp of both the freezer and the refrigerator. I have the display mounted on the outside (side) of the fridge using heavy duty Velcro and it hasn't come off yet due to heat. I find that I check it regularly each day, just to make sure that everything is working as it should. The high/low temps are resettable and it has an alarm function if the temps are out of range. RE: Fast tongue jack

Wow I never thought of getting a faster tongue jack! I could save at least 45 seconds each setting up and breaking down. It was a simple, straight forward question. It didn't require a rude response. To him, it takes too long. Without further information, you don't have any idea if your 45 seconds is accurate or not. If you can't be nice, then don't say anything is what I was taught.
