RE: Good 2023 seasonal for family of 4 near NJ?

Consult a campground directory and check out the campgrounds in Sussex and Warren counties. I know many of them have seasonal sites.

RE: New Jersey to California

I'm with Mayor30, depending on where you are leaving from in New Jersey, you want to avoid the Penn Turnpike. It is a hefty toll. I pay almost $30 just to go from New Jersey to the Harrisburg area. It will probably cost you almost almost $50 to get to where I-70 branches off near Pittsburgh. You can check the toll calculator at the Penn Turnpike website.
If you take I-80, stay straight toward Akron when you get to Ohio. That will take you to I-71 that you take south to Columbus.
Another idea, depending on time and where you want to go, is take I-81 south through Virginia than I-40 across the country.

RE: Overnight stop in CT, NY, or NJ? Suggestions needed.

Depending on when you arrive in New Jersey and how you feel about KOAs, there is a KOA off Route 295, Exit 18. It is listed as Philadelphia South but it is in New Jersey. You would take Rt. 295 north from the Delaware Memorial Bridge rather than the N.J. Turnpike. There are also a few campgrounds in the Jackson area near Rt. 195 in central New Jersey, but they are farther off your route if you are just looking for an overnight stop. You won't find anything suitable in North Jersey.
