RE: Medicare Questions

My late wife was older than me so when she became medicare eligible it became secondary to my employer health insurance which was called a Cadillac plan. I don't think medicare paid squat for the three days she was in ICU. This was before Obamacare.

RE: Winter camping in Alberta

I would think you would have secured a campspot before renting the camper. I know that people rent them to use as extra sleeping quarters during the holidays for visiting relatives.

RE: Chicago how I don’t love you

2:00 AM on a Sunday would be the only time I would suggest driving through Chicago. There is no reason to go through Chicago on your trip. I80 is south of the city, it is the main cross country highway for truck traffic and is always heavy. Timing is everything and you dont want to hit I80-94 westbound at morning rush which is 6:00 to 10:00 AM. There is one toll exiting to I80 from I294. DW hates I80 because of truck traffic but we take it to I280 around the QuadCities then back on I80 to I380 N in Iowa to US20 west to I29 N to I90 At Sioux Falls W to Rapid City. I think you would be better to cross at Windsor and avoid tolls on I80-90 they get pricey. FYI Born and raised in Chicago. Retired Carpenter and drove every highway and byway in the Chicago SMA. Still have daughter living there so we run through twice a year.

RE: Trying to figure out best 5th wheel? Advice appreciated

I would look at Artic Fox as I did. Pasted my inspection but didn't meet DW's standards on interior storage and looks. That was however on the largest AF 5er we did wind up with the DRV in my sig. We are full timers and more often spend time in high temps than low. But we have found with night in upper twenties the fireplace heater will keep us warm for sleeping and kicking on the furnace for a short time in the morning will keep warm things up quickly.

RE: Germs while traveling

Over washing your hands is not healthy. The natural oils keep your hands from drying out and cracking. Those little germs like to enter those cracks. I often wonder how mankind has survived on this filthy planet so long.

RE: Bed rail clearance

5th wheels are made to ride level why trade one perceived problem for an actual one of overloading the rear axles.

RE: 5G cell phones, need to purchase?

3G is going the way of the dodo. The 3G bandwidth is being pulled for 5G won't bother you unless your running dinosaur phones.

RE: 2020 Ford F350 weight

I dont own a F350. Plan on buying one soon to replace my gas F250 so we can haul a good sized 5th wheeler. Am on the fence between a F350 6.7 4x4 LB CC single or dual wheel set up. Before getting a 5th wheel I never hauled anything other than 15 foot fishing boat and occasional hay wagon. I retired bought an 09 F350 DRW 4x4 6.4 and a 14,900 gvw 5th wheel within the first 500 miles I knew the DRWs were the right choice. We have upgraded with rig in sig and I am pleased with the setup. I believe Ford has a newer transmission than the '17' had. For me the 4:10 rearend makes this combo a pleasure to drive at 27,600 GCVW. I doubt that you would need 4:10s but we do the mountains and have pulled 10% grades with no problems.

RE: 2020 Ford F350 weight

Because we paid cash and were out of state I had the document of origin in order to register my '17' F350 4x4 DRW CC 6.7 KR shipping weight was just under 7900#. The original went to the state but I made a copy. I know where it is but too lazy to dig it out. According to door sticker GVW 14,000 but my carry capacity is listed 5603. I assume the truck was shipped with minimal fuel so there is still a couple hundred pounds deference. Can't imagine that the dealer added anything other than a full tank of fuel and window washer.

RE: Christmas where???

I'm with a previous poster with the border closed your options are greatly expanded. Several years ago we visited family in St Augustine for Christmas but then went west on I10 and just meandered along seeing the sights state parks along the way. Do need to check reservations vrs walk ins. We stayed in ACE in Texas always good views and senior discounts.

RE: Mice in RV living quarters

Do you store at home or at a storage facility? If at home mouse traps both head choppers and sticky traps. You can check them regularly. A little more difficult at a storage facility but doable.

RE: looking to buy new fifth wheel

Looking to upgrade from current 37ft fifth wheel and considering a 42 ft but concerned about limiting access to campgrounds. Good more 37 ft sites for me.;)

RE: Campsite Squatters

Have any of you noticed people leaving their trailers in great campsites on BLM and USFS land during the week and then showing up on the weekends to camp? I have seen on first come sites with 2 week stay an extended family takes over a site one moves out and another is waiting to move in and when that ones over another family member or friend is there to occupy the site. When that one is leaving the original rig is moving back in. All legal, always someone games the system.

RE: cracked potable water tank

Since we are not in hurricane areas we always travel with just enought water to flush the comode 15-20 gals in our 100 gal tank. Water is heavy and I prefer to carry beer

RE: Oxidation question now with pics

The trouble with that used unit and you selling it at 12 years of age is that it will be difficult to sell. Banks, credit unions are not willing to lend on 12yo trailers no matter the condition you'll need cash buyer or finance yourself.
