RE: Replacement for Onan 4000

My Onan 5500 worked great for one year then started surging, gave it the Seafoam treatment , seemed to help. Started surging again the next year , replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter worked good for that year. Next year started surging again, tried stronger mix of seafoam , didn't help and actually made it worse. Took carb bowl off, cleaned what jets I could with carb cleaner and it purred like a kitten. Left for a trip one week later , back to same old surging issue. A new carb for this model is over $300 but may have to bite the bullet and get it as I can't find a knock off carb for this model. I exercise it every month during the summer with a load on it and put fuel stabilizer in at the end of the season and run it with that in the fuel. I have a 5500 Champion for the house that has never let me down other than stupid Ethanol gas eating up stuff , carb was $35 for it.

RE: Quality used Class A's

the newer gas coaches should have a 6 speed tranny which would be nice to have

RE: generator surge

I have a Onan 5500 and have the same issue. Two years ago I had a surging issue and replaced the electric fuel pump (after replacing the fuel filter) . That appeared to fix it until this year, replaced filter, ran SeaFoam through it , no better. Took off carb bowl with carb in place, cleaned it as good as I could...also noticed governor linkage had popped off governor and popped that back on.... purred like a kitten with / without load. Vacation , started surging again.... probably will end up forking out the $315 for a new carb even though it irritates me as I bought a new carb for my Champion for $25....can't find a knock off for this 5500 Onan

RE: Gas station guide

The book "Next Exit" is pretty good about listing gas stations that are RV friendly (listed in Red ). I have a 35 ft MH and tow, this past summer I pulled into 4 stations in a row that I couldn't get into the pumps . Most new stations are being built with the pump lanes heading into the stores, makes it very tight to impossible to get in/out of the pumps.

RE: Winter Storage - Cover at Home or Store at Indoor Facillity?

Just be aware that the covers are heavy , mine weighs about 45 lbs for my 35 ft coach. The first year I carried it to the top and laid it out, upside down oops... The next 2 years I laid it out on the ground (unzip front and back) and dragged it up over, much easier. I live in NH where we have plenty of snow, haven't had any issues. Norm

RE: Oil stick problem - need help

see if you can find a borescope camera small enough to go down the dip stick tube so you can see what it is hitting , This one is about 5/16 inch

RE: Helping a friend look at a Class A

I have a Tiffin Allegro 2000 33 with one slide and am very happy with it. It has the v10 and about 4000 lbs capacity also. We took a 7000 + mile trip with it this past summer from NH, Badlands, Custer, Yellowstone , Bryce, Zion , Las Vegas, down to San Antonio and back home. Had a nice time with very few issues. Never wished I had anything bigger and sometimes wished it was smaller (gas stations i couldn't get into) Norm
