RE: 400 mile electric RV

Homey, could not verify what they have personally, but I bet they recycle their empty White Claw cans. It does not surprise met that a hoity toity ivy league university that churns generations of pontificators that speak about all things woke (aka elites), has such a teensy weensy solar footprint. Why spend their endowment bucks to go 100% solar, just wait and pretty soon the Feds will start giving them away. Right?Fair enough. My local university has similar size system. Although it is all on top of the buildings and parking structures. ZERO additional land use. Not saying this is the end all solution.... however as more people and businesses participate it will go a long way with NO additional land use, NO additional transmission lines. Enough Santa Claus with incentives... need more Grinch with mandates. One watt per square foot required for all new residential and all additions is my suggestion. Similar for business.

RE: Newsom signs bill to ban the sell of gas powered generators

Wanna be a "trillionaire"? Then invent a battery operated generator. Especially one that functions during power outages. Let's go Brandon!I built my own for home emergency use. I am sure it could power a commercial landscaper (one truck of equip) for the day. Still not a trillionaire.

RE: DC-DC Charger Wiring Input Suggestions

OK that self resetting breaker is in the TC right? These self resetting breakers are a disaster waiting to happen. Get a real breaker such as Bussmann Hi-Amp of the correct rating (amazon). Probably 40-50 amp is appropriate depending on the wire size and other charging equipment.

RE: DC-DC Charger Wiring Input Suggestions

I would use the existing charge wire and place the DC-DC charger near the battery in the TC. 20 amp rating should be sufficient.

Finally. The only thing worse than the fumes is the noise.

RE: Solar Wiring Question

The inverter pos and neg is connected to the batteries via the Buss. The chassis neg is connected to the Buss.#2 is fine. Maybe some overkill.

RE: Solar Wiring Question

If the inverter positive and negative connect direct to the battery or bus, the existing ground is fine. If the inverter negative uses the chassis frame to get power, yes the bus to chassis needs to be 4/0.

RE: Lithium Batteries

My question is what size or amp hour should I get? I now have 2 6 volt with 200 amp/hr.that need to be replaced. With lithium able to be discharged past the 50%. Thanks Lee.Depends if you want to continue to eek by on the minimum. I would have 300 AH minimum.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

Tesla belt buckle Those Texans seem very proud to have Tesla building the factory. I wonder if they know they still cannot buy a Tesla off a lot on the spot. Must go home and order the vehicle and wait. Then the transaction is handled similar to an out of state transfer. There are a few show rooms to kick tires but nothing for direct sales. That apparently is what TX calls freedom. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1132408_tesla-won-t-be-able-to-directly-sell-the-cars-it-builds-in-texas-to-texans

RE: Lithium cost keep dropping!

Standard shipping from China right now is 90+ days. If it is the regular 75 days promised I would start a dispute at 76 days. Here is a few legit sellers. Qishou Docan Luyuan

RE: Lithium cost keep dropping!

They supposedly commit Seppuku if drained lower than a certain percentage of capacity. 20%? Is a 100 amp hour *rated* lithium battery really an 80 amp hours usable battery?Fully 100% usable. BMS will protect you from Seppuku. Need to refer to the manufacturer on expected life. Some might already be derated to 80%. Although I would find it oddly difficult to use precisely 80% or 100% on any random day.

RE: Lithium cost keep dropping!

What is the USUABLE amp hours of a "100 amp hour" lithium battery? Or is it hypothetical like solar panel wattage as measured on the planet Mercury?Sweet spot is up to 80% for 4000 to 6000 cycles. 100% maybe 3000 cycles or almost 10 years for daily cycling. This rating drops you to 80% capacity. Possibly still very usable. For many of us it could prove to be the last battery we buy.

Time will have the answer. I am ready to build. Or do we wait until 2/3rds of the US looks like NM?

RE: How to build a LiFePo4 battery bank.

Currently I have it set for 35F on, 45F off. Will see how it goes. Thinking about going 38 to 42 or similar. Not sure it is a huge deal to be exactly something to be perfect.

RE: How to build a LiFePo4 battery bank.

I was thinking about this at work, and I may be wrong... it all depends on the BMS and how it is configured for the internal pass through of power. if it is just one line then the cold weather will kill the whole battery, but if they spent some money and used diods and did two internal paths then you could controle charging and discharge independently. I guess we would have to dig into the BMS construction to know for sure... SteveMy BMS cuts charging at 1C and discharge at -10C.

RE: Battery replacement

Need to replace my two 6 volt golf cart batteries in my Solitude. Does anyone have any experience with the Interstate GC2ECL 6 VOLTS?These will serve you well. Charging and maintenance is far more important than brand. Lots of Interstate dealers around if you need service on the road.

RE: 400 mile electric RV

If a forest fire is caused by electric transmission lines, then it is not an act of nature. PG&E has caused more fires than Carters has pills. The need for building more transmission lines will increase exponentially as BEV ownership increases. Ergo, more fires. Windmills kill bird and requires a huge landmass (somewhere between 1/3 to 1/2 of USA) to provide the power this nation needs. Solar has a similar problem, and would require about 25% of USA's land to provide the power needed. But the power generated from current and alternative power still needs to go from here....to there. And its a fact, fires caused by electrical transmission result in more damage ($) than oil spills.Distributed solar can reduce the need for transmission lines. Cats kill more birds than windmills. Do we outlaw cats too? Google says solar would need 10 million acres or 0.4% of land to provide ALL US electricity. Rooftop solar takes up zero extra space, zero extra transmission lines.
