RE: Lithium Battery Charging System

I oversized the solar because we live in the Pacific Northwest and are subject to low winter sun and lots of cloudy, rainy days. This really does make a big difference. Example, North Carolina coast, with 0 shade. in July 200W was enough for us to boondock, but in September we would need to run the 2K generator every day for an hour so to break even. the following fall we ran 30% more solar in same campsite and everything was OK. Even in Central FL I was using a 100w panel to keep an RV charged that was parked under a cover. In the winter I would have to tilt the panel to have enough charge but in dead of summer the flat panel was enough.

RE: New shocks?

I had a conversation with Ranch and ended up putting 9000's on the back and 5000's on the front of a 2015 Ram dually (exact same suspension you are using). IT WAS A MESS. I could hit dips in the road at 45mph that would start the rear of the truck osculating and only thing that would stop it was to slow down. Rancho sent me new 9000's which did nothing to stop the problem. Ended up sending all 4 socks back to Rancho (they have this test drive problem) and going with Biletein 4300's. Later I got the 2018 which I left stock. If you were loaded all the time I would suggest going to FOX shocks and have them valved for the weight. I put a set on my Sprinter MH that were valved by Agile Offroad (who also owned a Sprinter MH) and it made a world of difference in both ride AND body sway.

RE: Fifth Wheel Hitch - tried searcing

For a couple of truck campers I had a reese 5th wheel hitch in bed that left the rails down. One one camper I used 2x3's screwed to the camper floor so it would ride in bed and not hit the rails. On another camper I used 2x 3/4" plywood spacers I built that would lay in front of, between and behind the rails to support camper. I would throw then into truck instead of screwing them to camper floor than throw rubber mat over it. than I got a 2015 Ram which had the factory hitch pucks mounted in the bed, that allowed the bed to be flat when I removed the hitch.

RE: camping in the Keys

We went in June last year and found a campsite (with reservations) on Stock Island, just 1 hop from Key west @ Boyds campground. it was OK, tight as expected, and the chickens that roam the island are a PITA but we got to see Key West. A week was a little long. Be prepared to pay a small fortune for parking in Key west, every where you go has pay at the curb machines where you put a slip on your dash.

RE: boondocking in Leesburg Fl

We live in Leesburg. Have not seen the AF boondocking, but we see one stored in our RV lot, and a couple others in the RV Storage area down Hwy 44 ... Might be someone lives in town but just out tripping around the area. I do that occasionally in the Lance. :) It shows up in the lake Harris publix parking lot often, or it moves over to the Winndixie lot Seen it out in cracker barrel lot by Lowes, and a couple others. Nice looking rig. I think mine was 1 year older. Might have some accessories they want make an offer on like a 24 or 34" x 2.5" Curt Hitch extension, etc.

boondocking in Leesburg Fl

Someone with an AF has been boondocking around Leesburg FL over the last month or so in different parking lots. newer AF, maybe a 990, the model with the arched roof. Just wondering if it is someone on here? Just saying Hi:)

RE: Major Problems with Bed of Truck - how to fix?

Disregard, i was corrected its not a 990. Page 2 it is said this is a short bed truck. the camper COG is about 24" forward from the rear of the truck. That means there is around almost 1/2 the 5000 lbs weight of that camper resting on those 2 crushed points. The camper has a floor length of 118" also add in about 2" for those rubber bumpers on front of camper that hit bed. The truck bed is 75.6". The camper is hanging out of back of truck by around 44" That means almost 1/3 of the camper is cantilevering off the back corners of the truck bed. Neither camper or bed is designed for that stress.

RE: 1977 Sunline Truck Camper FULL BUILD

that works, if I could remember the user name on here. I know it has something to do with Kawasaki but I could not find it.

RE: Michelin Agilis CrossClimate Tires LT

When I was looking for my MH they were the favorite for the Mercedes Benz 3500 chassis owners.

RE: Let's talk air bags...

I can't say enough great things about the Torklift Lower Overloads on my Ram with leaf springs. And the best part is you can disengage them when driving with camper unloaded. Plus they now make them in stainless steel. If I was to do it over, this would be my first change.

RE: Is an old fantastic fan worth fixing?

I seem to recall there is a life time warranty on the lid for the original fans. One blew off my dads motorhome, current Fantastic fan owners sent free cover. I had modern ones installed in last 2 truck campers. I ended up replacing motors on both as they started to sound like crickets were in the motor. I still have some laying around and was going to experiment with drilling a hole to oil the motor bearings. But its the plastic that goes bad over the long haul that you might not be able to get.

Geocel Flex RV would be my first choice.

RE: Bed mat and cutting out for factory bed holes?

the mat might not work with the factory 5th wheel hitch either as it lays down pretty close on the bed. I used to just role up the rubber mat, put a tie down around it to keep it rolled up and put it in the garage when I needed to use the 5th wheel hitch.

RE: New polar cub Mach 8 AC and the Honda eu2000i question

My EU2000i always starts with 1 or 2 pulls if it's been run in the last few days. But if it sits for a month or longer, it's a good 20-30 pulls to get it started. But after all those pulls and finally starting, if I shut it off, it restarts in 1 or 2 pulls. Anybody else have this problem and been able to fix it? I used to until I read this procedure turn on big dial switch (to get fuel into fuel pump). turn off eco mode turn on choke now turn off big dial switch. brisk pull cord around 5 times. this allows fuel to get from pump to carb) turn back on big dial switch. brisk pull cord and it will start pretty easy.

RE: New polar cub Mach 8 AC and the Honda eu2000i question

I have a Mach 8 9200btu unit running off a Ryobi 2200 inverter generator with no problems at all. That extra 200 watts is not needed to run the AC as compared to your 2000 Honda - at least not until you ascend to high elevations. Mine will run the ac unit 10-11 hours on the little tank of gas, which I think is 0.9 gallons. I have never have this problem. once I am don using it for trip or season, I run it until it shuts off out of fuel, then put a little Trufule or vp racing small engine fule in the tank, run it a few minutes and just shut it off. Mine sits for months and never had a problem.

RE: A new adventure for me.

also not sure about the lance, but 4 season campers might have the propane heater heating the basement. Switch to an electric space heater and you might stop circulating heat into basement. I know the AF 990 we had there was a fan under the bathroom door that sucked air through the basement every time the thermostat triggered on.
