RE: Fifth wheel hitch height trick

I have for years used a bubble level on the side of the trailer, near the jack power. I has a sliding marker that lets me mark the height when I unhook. I then go to level and return the bubble to the marker to re-hitch. Quick, easy and reliable. I just looked at bubble levels now available on line and none seem to have this obvious option.

RE: Batteries

Agree that for two nights you are fine -- IF you just use them for lights, a little furnace and perhaps charging some phones etc. Just pay attention to your usage. If you or the family screw up and use too much you can usually find a friendly neighbor with a generator to get you over the hump. Enjoy.

RE: battery/meter electrical problem

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts. I installed my 4 GC2 6 volt system years ago and am confident in the connections. I am going to replace the batteries as soon as I can get them out. I am no longer able to lift 60# at arm's length and hard to ask for help with the current quarantine. I was hoping to get them working enough to move the Fiver to a battery shop. I still have more trouble shooting to figure why they died when on a maintenance charge from my solar system. And I double checked the meter settings. I am giving this a couple days to let my mind clear and will figure it out. Thanks again to all. Let's close the thread.

RE: battery/meter electrical problem

(bat 1 pos to bat 2 neg/grnd) does that mean you hooked the pos cable of one battery to the post of the other battery that was grounded? I hope not. Of course I did. That is how you create a 12 volt battery from 2 6 volt batteries. Connect in series.

battery/meter electrical problem

I neglected my rv for the entire winter and am paying the price. My 4x6 volt flooded GC2 batteries are near dead. Today I was trouble shooting them to see if I could revive/charge them enough to get the RV to a shop to swap them. Two of them were very low, ~ 2.8 and 3.6 volts. I connected them in series (bat 1 pos to bat 2 neg/grnd) and checked for their combined voltage and I get a 0 volt reading and a tone, like the one for continuity instead of the combined voltage. Reading from bat #1 neg to bat #2 pos. I have never had a tone from a DC voltage reading. Connecting the two meter probes gives 0 voltage but no tone. The meter gives reliable readings for dc voltage on other sources. After separating the batteries, they read individual batteries properly again. I am not new to 6 volt batteries, but I feel like other times in life when I have been stumped by a simple problem until the obvious pops up. So i am ready to be humiliated with the obvious. I am in AZ and it is too hot to spend the day out there. thanks, bill On edit: Let me state my question more clearly. Why would two partially charged batteries in series give a zero voltage reading and even stranger, create a tone on a volt meter set at DC voltage?

Costco GC2 batteries changed?

I have used 4 Costco GC2 batteries for years and usually get 6 years from them. Never a failure. I just Google searched them and see many (16 of 18) negative ratings. I need to replace my five year old batteries and had planned to go with a proven product. Has something changed?

RE: led vanity lights

Yes after a few failed attempts I found that for the bathroom light These Lights worked out very well, they are natural light range so they don't give off that dull light or the blue light some do. Thanks. Just what I was looking for.

led vanity lights

Has anyone found a good warm white led vanity light bulb to replace the 12 incandescent bulbs?

broken springs

I discovered a broken spring on my fiver about 5 years ago. Considered it an anomaly and replaced it. This summer I discovered another spring broken while on the road in Utah. Stopped at a Flying J in Scipio to get it replaced and found two were broken, one on each side. The second probably happened on the crappy section of IH-15 south out of Salt Lake while I was looking for a repair shop. Anyway, getting to the point I had all 4 replaced with heavier 5 leaf springs vs 4 leaf that came on it. Sunnybrook made excellent trailers in that time frame but like all manufacturers they used only the minimum required. The OEM tires were D rated (just barely enough) and I upgraded to E. I am sure the springs were adequate, but probably just adequate. Something to consider if one is having suspension work done. FWIW
