Storage West Viginia or Virginia

Hi all, I'm looking for a reasonably safe and preferably covered (not essential) storage space for my 30' TT. Looking for someplace handy to the I-81 corridor in either West Virginia or Virginia. Any help is appreciated

Schwintek slide

Hi all, I'd like to ask those of you who are familiar with the Schwintek slide if you have found them to be reliable. I have read about failures and wonder if on long trips I should have a spare motor. Also I'm not clear how to release the motors so that I can manually push it in. I saw a video somewhere prevously but couldn't find it this morning. Most of the videos show how to override the controller which I am good with. Thanks

RE: axle upgrade

Yes I'll upgrade the tires but for my research i need to make sure I have the correct wheelbase dimension.

axle upgrade

Hi all, Looking to source parts for an axle upgrade. I have a bent axle so I want to replace it and do an upgrade with mor ryde parts. The Mor Ryde CRE 3000 lists 33 and 35 inch wheelbase. I'm measuring mine at 36 inches. Wonder if I'm doing it wrong. I'm measuring for center hub to center hub. Is that right?

RE: Adding travel time to Google maps

I also add a lot of time to Googles time. I agree with gbopp, 50 mph average, so I just count on 2 hours per hundred miles. Not much thinking involved. I'm going to use this.

Adding travel time to Google maps

I use google maps allot while towing. Looking at the estimated time of the trip I'm wondering if you routinely add time to the Google estimate. I normally allow an extra hour for a trip that maps says will take 5 hrs or so. Interested to hear what others do.

RE: I-90 Through Cleveland

Great thanks for the replies, I'll just stay on I 90.

I-90 Through Cleveland

Hi all, I'll be traveling westbound on I-90 in a few days towing my TT. Wonder what the best route is to getting around Cleveland. Like to avoid going through the highest traffic areas without going too far out of the way. Looking at Google Maps it doesn't look like I have that many options. Thanks.

Dealing with campground reservations

My wife and I traveled around the country mostly in 2010, 12 and 16 and never really worried about making too many reservations and as a result we never planned more than a couple of days out. These days I have learned the hard way that you need a reservation for every night and so have to stick to a regimented schedule being committed to staying someplace on a certain day. I have booked a trip from NH out to Yellowstone and back. Wanted to also do Grand Tetons but couldn't find a spot anywhere. As I made reservations out and back I found many campgrounds full even on weekdays and when I did get a site usually at my 2nd or 3rd choice I found that there were only a few left available. I surveyed the campgrounds and they all said that they have been absolutely slammed whether or not it was a "destination" spot. This brings me to my question for those of you have been out on long trips in the last month or so. Logistically how did you work it ( or think you would work it)if you got to an interesting place and decided you wanted to spend an extra day or two or suffered a breakdown or other mishap? Seems to me that the ripple effect to the reservations made would really be an issue since you might not find availability and in my case it could mean calling 10 or more places to change things up. Makes me think maybe I should just stick closer to home and hope things calm down for next year. Thoughts?

RE: Gros Veture Campground (or others) Grand Tetons NP

I put June 15 in and plenty of sites available plus your 5er will fit over the concrete curbs limiting the size of the sites. There are plenty of USFS CG that fortunately do not take reservations for those of us that are no reservations types. June 15-18 Thank you. I have to Leave Grizzly in West Yellowstone on June 10th. I have now made my reservations for the trip back. I think it simply comes down to the fact that I waited too long especially for a destination site like Grand Tetons.

RE: Gros Veture Campground (or others) Grand Tetons NP

all the in park campgrounds are reservation only again this year. Keep checking, and you can eventually get lucky reserving some nights as people cancel and change their plans. I've been looking for the same trip for July. I was able to snag 4 nights in a couple different sites in Yellowstone. and just last week I got a reservation for 4 consecutive nights in Lizard Creek in Grand Teton. You just have to find an opening at the right time after someone cancels. I've seen more openings early in the morning, like 8-10 AM EST than afternoons/evenings. Thanks sounds like good advice. And thanks to all who replied.

RE: Gros Veture Campground (or others) Grand Tetons NP

You have to make reservations at any of the major parks at least six months in advance, with the exception of Bryce. Yup finding out the hard way. Last time I went on the road for multiple months was 2010 and 2012. Never planned more than 2 days ahead. This will be my last long trip, Getting too complicated for this old fool.

RE: Gros Veture Campground (or others) Grand Tetons NP

Well I'm going to skip Grand Tetons. Was hoping to go there mid June but there aren't any spots to be found. Should have figured this out earlier. I'll start heading back from Yellowstone. Thanks very much to those who replied.

West Yellowstone to Grand Tetons

Looking at U.S. Rt 20 to State Rts 32 and 3 then U.S.191 to Gros Venture CG. To those of you familiar with this route is it ok or challenging while pulling a travel trailer? Mostly concerned with steep grades and narrow lanes and want to be prepared. Thanks

Gros Veture Campground (or others) Grand Tetons NP

Planning on staying at Gros Venture mid June. I understand it is a first come first serve place with no reservations accepted. Anyone have any advice for getting a site like what time of day to arrive or is there more than one gate etc? If there are no sites available do they have an overflow area? Are there other options? I looked at Coulter Bay and they are completely full. Just a little concerned about site availability with the news of the explosion of rv's since the pandemic. Thanks

Billings Montana to Yellowstone

I'll be driving from Billings, Mt to Grizzly Rv park in West Yellowstone. Looks like the most direct Route is I-90 to U.S.191. Does anyone have firsthand knowledge of 191? Is it a decent road to drive an RV to Grizzly? Any formidable grades up or down? Thanks.

RE: Ford as a tow vehicle

I recommend using Tow/Haul trans mode all the time to disable AFM. :) If that still doe not meet your expectations and want to jump to Ford, then I recommend a 3/4 ton 7.3L if your TT is 7500 pounds dry. If 7500 pounds loaded, then the half ton will handle well. I recommend the 3.5L Ecoboost twin turbo engine, not the regular 3.5L. I did try using the tow/haul mode as someone had mentioned that to me before but the AFM was not disabled. Maybe not on this year?

RE: Ford as a tow vehicle

Found out the truck I was going to look at had moderate to severe damage to the rear according to Carfax. I wonder if they were going to tell me or just leave it up to me to do my due diligence. I think they should have told me before I booked an appt to go see it but perhaps I expect too much. Oh well.

RE: Ford as a tow vehicle

Thanks to all for the helpful replies. Going to look at a 2019 F150 3.5 with twin turbo on Friday.
