RE: FDA announces Dog Foods that can cause heart failure UPDATE

I have a (yellow) labrador retriever, one of the targeted breeds in this study. I've had a hard time finding a kibble Lido can eat, because he has multiple sensitivities/allergies, including chicken (NASTY poo, despite probiotics) and grains (INSANE itching, even formulas w/out corn, wheat, and soy). He also likely has environmental allergies - sigh... I'm going to get him allergy tested, so see exactly what's what. Finding a kibble without chicken and grains, that does not include peas, lentils, or potatoes has been a real challenge. I finally settled on Earthborn Venture Pollack Meal & Pumpkin. It's the only one I've found without any offending ingredients.

RE: Allowing non-housebroken dog to move in

The dog may not have had the opportunity to go outside as needed. She may do fine with a regimented puppy training - like potty schedule. True story: We took in my MIL's dog, Rosie, a 7 year old cockapoo, a few years ago. Rosie was AWFUL! She had absolutely no manners, was used to eating only fresh, boiled chicken, and Milk Bones - lots of each. She was OBESE, because my precious MIL had dementia and didn't remember that she'd already fed Rosie, and continued to feed her - often. Rosie was used to walking on tables and what ever else she wanted to do (really...), begging, barking, and being generally obnoxious. When my MIL was placed in a nursing home, one of the family members wanted to have Rosie put to sleep. I said ABSOLUTELY NOT - I would take her and see what I could do. I told them that I would foster her, rehabiltate her, then find her a perfect furever home. The other family members thought I was crazy. Rosie came to us as fat as a swollen tick - really, she was AWFUL. She walked across an end table next to the couch the first day at our house. She never did it again... She just needed boundaries and rules. Rosie refused to eat the premium dog food I offered (Wellness Core Reduced Fat) for three days. At the end of the third day, she decided that it was pretty darn good, and she ate just fine from then on. I substituted no-salt green beens for some of the kibble to get her to lose weight (the vet said she was DOUBLE her ideal weight - 28 pounds vs. 14!). At first, she refused the green beans, but hunger finally won out, and she decided that they were pretty darn good - carrots too (only 2-3 baby carrots for dessert at dinner time - they're high in sugar). Rosie couldn't walk half a block at first, due to her obesity. As she lost weight, I increased her walks until we were walking 2-3 miles per day, and she LOVED them. She also turned into a fetching machine; she loved to chase toys in the house and outside. After 6-7 months, Rosie was down to her target weight of 14-15 pounds, and she was ready for her new home. I fostered for a local rescue, and I took her to adoptions one Saturday. We had no more than walked 10 feet in the door and a couple came up to me and said how cute she was. I mentioned that she was available for adoption. Yes, they took her home! They were an older couple who wanted an older dog who wanted to sleep on their bed and ride in their truck (Rosie's FAVORITE things!). Give the dog a chance. You'll be surprised at what the dog can do, given consistent boundaries and attention.

RE: 190 lb mastiff rescued from trail

Dog was not abandoned - he just gave out and needed help.

RE: how to level a trailer

Wherever I put the level, it's different in our camper... I check several places, then check how the shower and bathroom doors are when open. If they swing one way or the other, I adjust.

RE: Bumper Grill

Our Bullet came with a bumper grill. It's stored in our garage for when we trade for another camper, lol.

RE: What do you want in a campground?

We generally camp at State, Corp, or National parks. We prefer that the campground roads be paved (but have camped in campgrounds whose roads were not - dusty!), the sites to be level (or at least close to level - paved or gravel preferred), shaded is a big bonus (we live in the south), electric and water required, sewer nice, but not necessary, as long as there's a dump station (we have an overflow tank). We prefer to be near water: ocean first, lake, river, or stream second. Quiet hour rules need to be enforced. I enjoy kids having fun during the day - just please don't run/bike in front of me when I'm driving. :) If pet owners pick up their dog's poop, YAY! I've picked up more than my share of other dogs' poop - sigh... Being retired, we now have the luxury of camping during the week and avoiding holidays, which is heaven! :) Happy camping, whatever your style! If we were all the same, it would be a terribly boring world, wouldn't it?

RE: Roll over

Glad they're going to be okay. Prowlers tend to be heavy, plus it was pretty long. Was that a Ram 1500 Hemi? I have one and wouldn't pull that trailer. Ouch, so sorry for them!

RE: Roll over

Sad. I'm glad they're okay. Speed? Truck size vs. trailer?

RE: Tires

We replaced the 14 inch Trailer King tires, load C, on our 2017 Keystone Bullet 248rks (28'10" total length, 5100 lb. dry weight) with Goodyear Endurance, load D tires. I also had them balanced. Believe it or not, some tire dealers do not think trailer tires need balancing. Thankfully, my tire dealer, Discount Tire is more informed. I can definitely feel the difference when towing.
