RE: firman Generator

I purchased a Firman gen through Costco not to long ago as well. While reading through the reviews, someone had commented they had done exactly that and the gen fired up 8 months later without any issues. My only concern would if there was a problem. I'd hate to find out when I really need the gen. Just so long as the generator was in good working order when they stuffed it in the shipping container a year or more ago in China. They are shipped w/o oil or gas and I don't see why sitting in the box will deteriorate it in any reasonable amount of time. Of course the warranty time is ticking down.

RE: firman Generator

Is Costco willing to take it back for a return if it doesn't work? Or will you have to deal directly with the "Importer" (IE Firman)? Personally, if it was me, I would pull it out of the box the SECOND I got home and fire it up, load it for a couple of hrs.. DOAs happen and you won't know if it is DOA or working until you pull it out of the box and test fire it.. Warranty starts the second the sales transaction happens, July you are talking having a gen sit in a box never tested by you and if it doesn't work now it is your word against the store or importer when it comes to warranty coverage. Be aware, Costco isn't going to repair it or offer parts, you will have to deal directly with Firman who is nothing more than an importer of Chinese made products, they also do not make the gens, they buy them from another Chinese manufacturer who makes them.. If you go ahead buying a Firman (or any other Chinese off brand) I would highly recommend you replace the cheap spark plug that comes with the gen with a better brand like Champion.. The ones that come with the gens are pretty cheaply made and often are a source of starting problems.. Put the oil in some fuel and let it rip for a while.. Then before shutting down, turn off the fuel to the carb and let engine run out of fuel.. The other option is to turn off the fuel, then drain the carb.. No fuel in carb and you can store the gen for a long, long time. Leaving fuel sit in the carb can easily clog the emulsion tube in the carb (this tube has little tiny pin holes smaller than a sewing needle and is above the main jet). All Chinese Honda clone engines use the same Honda designed carbs and even Honda carbs are not immune to this tube clogging off..

RE: firman 1500 generator issues

Maybe you should ask (seriously!): Does anyone *HAVE* (own) a Firman ??...:h *If* you receive any responses - you might try a PM (Private Message). Otherwise - "some" may believe the mfgr's assessment & questions! Good luck. ~

firman 1500 generator issues

I bought this unit to take camping. It doesn't even have half an hour of use time when the unit sent too many volts to our travel trailer and started the trailer on fire. Luckily we all got out safely and the damage was kept to a minimum. However dealing with Firman has been frustrating. Instead of taking this complaint seriously they are questioning us on everything, as if we have never camped before and as if we have never used a generator before. I have a video of the generator voltage output fluctuating from 150-180 volts when it should only be putting out 120. I have my RV tech telling them exactly what happened and that we had no fault in it. I have provided pictures and all their requested information. But still we get no where. Super sad they aren't taking this seriously, my kids were in the trailer and things could have been really bad, and we don't want to see this happen to anyone else. Has anyone had this happen with a Firman or any other type of Generator?

RE: firman W02981- Any feedback?

Howdy all - Some friends of mine here in denver are borrowing their parents 5er. As with all novices, they are just starting out - and looking at a generator, and trying to do it on the cheap. They were looking at an open frame generator - and I've been a good RV friend, and told them that if they got one, I wouldn't be next to them! They started to look at Honda and Yamaha, and they are out of their price range. I know that many of us have Champions - but again, that seems to be out of their price range. They are now looking at the Firman W02981 from Costco. Does anybody have any history with this brand and in particular this model? At least buying from Costco - if it goes south, they can return it - but in a perfect world, it's a decent brand. Any thoughts or history would be greatly appreciated! thanks Josh I have a 3300/3000 unit inverter. Looks the same as this one. Can't think there is much difference. Starts every time real easy. I make sure it gets started once every couple months to make sure the battery stay up. Everytime I use it, it works fine. Have had it for four years.

Very good genny, have had one for aboot a year and half. Slight use, solar has been great, but runs AC when necc, and actually pretty quiet. I would say a bit less noise than our 2K Champion when running under a load. Good buy!! Firman has been very helpful with questions (no problems!!) and will send high altitude jet kits if requested.

These posts have Firman in them. As novices they're starting out by dry camping?

RE: Dual Fuel Generators

Being able to help out the neighbors is one of the reasons I want it to be somewhat portable. I'm thinking one of the manual transfer switches that just has a plug for the generator to plug into. I know some will say you can backfeed through the dryer plug as long as you have the main breaker off, but I'd rather wire it right and not run the risk of energizing the line by accident should someone turn the breaker on. I've looked a little at the Champion and the Firman just because I happened to see them in stores.
