Oh my did I become the butt of many jokes the other day.
From about 1980 to 1995 I was ate up with playing golf. I never broke 90 but played fairly well and loved the peace of a pretty day with friends.
About that time we moved to a resort area and I just wasn't willing to spend $100 and way up for a round of golf. Besides which we got our first TT and off we went.
Fast forward to Tuesday of this week. Being retired now it's easy to meet other retired people and I was invited to join a foursome. Around here ( we moved ) a round of golf is around $25 so I agreed.
I dig my clubs out and grab a box of balls. You should have heard the laughing and the hooting when the Wilson K28s came out. Turns out they were probably 30-35 years old. My new buddies remembered buying them when they were teenagers. Then they told me the shelf life of a golf ball is about 5 years. That sure explained why my distances were off all day. Who knew? Might they be thinking of the days when balls had a liquid center? Not sure any of them do now. Wanna give em a real laugh? Play Precept Lady. Low compression (80) but flies off a club face. I love them!!

You haven't played golf in awhile if...
Your hat says Arnold Palmer
You think the Eze-Go carts are for the landscaping crew
Your 16 year old former caddy has Alzheimer's
You found an airline baggage tag on your golf bag that says 'Pan Am'
You found a receipt for $ 3.25 in your golf bag. (for anything)

I can beat that. I went with a buddy a few weeks ago and neither of us had played in years. We get to the course and I go to put my shoes on only to find mouse nests in both shoes so I wear my tennies. Buddy laughs his tail off at me but before we are done he lost the soles of both of his shoes. What a pair of misfits but we had a blast.

It has been 40 years since I've played Golf! Just isn't my cup of tea. I prefer sports with physical contact, like Football, Boxing, & Basketball. I used to be very good in Track, but way too old to begin running the 400 meter or 4 X 400 meter (anchor leg) again. It would probably kill me with a heart attack. Bags.

delongtrevor, totally agree with you. I play golf for more than 30 years and I just love it. Golf can be extremely rewarding. It's also very painful, agonizing, and frustrating but that just makes it even more rewarding when it all comes good, and it does, eventually. That feeling when you first break 90, 80, or even 70 is a momentous occasion and makes you realize all the pain was worth it. I can't wait until I get out with friends and some beer to play golf. Because I have recently bought myself new golf clubs. By the way, who needs help with choosing golf clubs for beginners, I can help you.
