Don't you love headlines:
"Medical group endorses anti-malarial drug treatment for coronavirus patients"

What the medical group said:
“To prescribe hydroxychloroquine (or chloroquine) to hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia if all of the following apply: a) shared decision-making is possible, b) data can be collected for interim comparisons of patients who received hydroxychloroquine (or chloroquine) versus those who did not, c) the illness is sufficiently severe to warrant investigational therapy, and d) the drug is not in short supply,” the Thoracic Society said.

In other words - they endorse using it to see if it might work - as research or investigational therapy - not as a definite cure.

If this is true we have a, potentially, new ball game. It would stand to reason that your household cat or dog could transmit it.

The news reported that the tiger did develop a cough. So, if your cat/dog starts coughing, heads up! Recall that it's also been reported that the virus began in China at a location where live animals were being sold for food. Perhaps all animals may be suspect. Wasn't there a bird flu situation some years ago? I'm not a pet owner, but feel sorry for any pet owners if it is discovered that pets also need testing.

Don't panic. While this report is alarming, there have not been major reports of domestic animals being affected in the areas that have been dealing with corona for longer than we have.

There is an unpublished, non-peer reviewed paper out of China. I've read the summary and it's a little reassuring. They inoculated several domestic species with huge doses of virus and found that this virus was only able to grow and reproduce in cats and ferrets. The other species were a no go. That doesn't mean that any animal couldn't act as a vehicle for spread, just as inanimate items. They also did not find serious disease in the cats, just that the virus was able to reproduce.

The tigers and lion had mild signs and it is thought that they got it from a zookeeper.

The recommendations now are that if you are sick with symptons or are positive for corona, have someone else in the family care for the animal, minimize contact with the animals.

There still have been no cases documented where a dog or cat gave the virus to a human.

On of our cats developed pink eye while my wife was in the hospital recovering from COVID-19. We're thinking she (the cat) might have gotten it from my wife. She's not coughing, but she was lethargic for weeks and only now is back to normal. Her eye is still jacked up around her lids, but the eye itself is fine now.

One chicken plant near me closed. Paying the 400 plus workers for 2 weeks. A few have tested positive. The other chicken plant, that I haul out of is still open, but losing people every day.

I saw a report where felines are able to catch the virus, no report on canines

Heard anecdotal information the canines CAN catch Covid19. Supposedly quite a few dog deaths related to pneumonia lately
