Why is everyone getting a check? .

well "everyone" isn't getting one. saw a write up on the requirements and, in typical govt. fashion, are complex and confusing. but anybody who thinks that they don't deserve one can certainly turn those $$$ back to the US govt.

Here’s how to give it back. Just change the amount.

You can even give back more than you got.

You will not receive a direct deposit payment if you PAY your taxes online unless you provide the IRS additional information. You will receive a check via snail-trail. Those that received money back last year via direct deposit will get the subsidy direct deposited.

I'm in the same boat. I do not receive money back each year. I have to pay additional in April. Therefore, we must wait.

They have my bank information to come and get it, but not to give it? That's weird.

This may apply to you, from the IRS website:

Quote:

Q:I made an electronic payment from my bank account to the IRS (includes a Direct Debit Installment Agreement (DDIA)). Will my payment be direct deposited to the same account? Can I use Get My Payment to provide my bank account information?

A:The account information used to make an electronic payment to the IRS cannot be used as the account information for the direct deposit of your payment. If we do not have bank account information for you and your payment has not been processed yet, Get My Payment will allow you to submit your bank account information once you have properly verified your identity so that you can get your EIP via direct deposit. Otherwise, we will mail your payment to address we have on file for you.

Thanks. It never occurred to me they couldn't use the same bank info they use to come and get money.

I just entered all my info. Of course you can't copy/paste bank numbers, you have to type them in. Oh well...

At least now you know.
We decided to wait for the actual check.

Many people use third party services to pay their quarterly payments. You probably wouldn't want your stimulus check to go to your accountant or tax service.

We got our $1,200 check yesterday, 4/15, deposited in the account that our Social Security payments go to.
