In my 16+ yrs of RVing 15 of them has been in a 5er with about 68,000 miles of traveling distance.. So its here I'm raising a question about a more intimate way of RVing in a smaller RV..Ive been thinking of 2 types, 1st a PU Camper with a small cargo trailer for my MC or a small TH about 26' in length...See My wife and I love our 5er but on our last big trip camping along the Rockies from Grand Tetons up into Canada along the Ice Fields Pkway up to Jasper...Wow what a trip..We spent most of the trip in State or National parks camping. Which are smaller in size and have no utilities (for 1-3nights is cool,unless its Hot)..Now were interested in doing more parks but finding a 38' or more site is difficult but plenty of 28 to 32' sites and the roads in some of the CG are Tight...Has any tried a downsized RV or a PU camper and your thoughts? one of mine is the space for my Recliner!!

I owned 4 truck campers and then migrated to 5th wheels. Now on my 3rd one. I would go back to a truck camper but the wife says no. Spoiled to the room and storage of a 5th wheel makes going back impossible. The utility of a truck camper is great. If you like to stay in one place very long a 5th wheel is better. I never planned much when we had truck campers. Now I find myself planning ahead for weeks so a spot is waiting. Just be sure your truck is set up for a truck camper. Nothing less than an F350 is best.

Seems like the trend now is 40'+ rv's, but my 32' suits us fine.
If I were going to tour Canada, or Alaska I would consider a truck camper.

I went up from 17ft trailer to eventually a 45 DP then down to a 40 and now a 36DP. Miss a few things but nothing that matters. Not going to be any .

I used a 39ft toyhauler - Carriage C-Force for three years, one year full time.
It is great once you are on site but big and clumsy for proper explorations.
I use a TC on a F-350 with whatever trailer - enclosed for motorcycle garage, boat trailer, canoe trailer, snowmobile - is required for the mission.
The truck has an aluminum flat deck so I have storage boxes and space on the deck for truck and camp stuff - so it won't matter what trailer is used.

We had a truck camper for 12 years while we both worked and it was great as it allowed us to pull our boat behind. We only went to the 5th wheel because now in retirement, we leave the trailer for the season in a single camp site. Can't beat a truck camper for shorter stays and flexibility. A dually will haul a beast of a TC that has slides so the room isn't really bad at all. The only issue is one's willingness to crawl up and down to get in and out of bed. That was one of my wife's biggest complaints.

We dropped back from a 31ft 5er to a 25ft TT. Part of the reason was we are planning a trip to Alaska/N. Canada in 2022.
It does take some getting used to (and thinning out some of the junk we were carrying around. The positive side is having the truck bed cleared of the hitch opened up storage there.
Probably the biggest loss is the dual recliner. Of course it's a toy hauler, so it would be easy enough to stick a dual recliner in the garage but it's not a deal breaker.

Hauling a big motorcycle with anything but a motorhome or a truck camper is a problem. I don't think you will like moving from a 5er to either of these.
How important is that MC ?

I went from sleeping bags and mother earth to tents to truck campers to a 24' TT to a 30'TT to a 35' 5er. Each one had their own advantages.
With the campers, I could park anywhere, and I never had an issue with finding a spot for the 24. The 30 was mostly doable, and not sure yet about the 5er. The effective length is about the same as the 30, so next summer will tell.
The most memorable was the tents with a young family who loved the outdoors.
