I can see our neighborhood roundabout from my favorite chair in the house Maybe a third of drivers go the wrong way. Scary.

Agreed - difficult while towing.
There is something special about camping in an RV.

IIRC Italy and swiss differ on who has the right of way entering or exiting. I'm glad I was the passenger in those situations.

Hwy 260 from Camp Verde to Cottonwood AZ......AZDOT/Federal Project to turn the one lane each way into a 2 lane each way divided hwy
Included in that project.....7 round abouts in 18 miles between the 2 towns
I am in the dislike crowd.
All round abouts are 2 laned and YIELD to the one 'inside' the circle
BIG YELID painted on roadway...Yield Signs all over
Folks don't yield, folks with right away Stop, folks speed up and race thru, Semis/dirt haulers, cement trucks can NOT stay in lane
And hwy speed is 55 mph.....then down to 20 mph for round abouts then back up to 55
2 lanes each way/divide hwy would have been GREAT....W/O the dang round abouts
*most have lanes that go split off to NOTHING
The round abouts are set up that you curve to left before entering then curve to right as you enter then curve back to left and then back to right as you continue straight thru
**Or you go round, round, round
Is it time for your medication or mine?

The issue is people insist on being 2 feet off the bumper of the car in front of them. Even with straight line highway driving people are so close to the vehicle in front of them no one can maneuver...aka change lanes. I hate driving in a pack like everyone is chained together.
I don't care what the speed limit is I do what I feel safe in the given conditions. Same with the roundabout...I will take up how ever many lanes I need to to get to where I need to. Truckers do it, so can I.
As previously mentioned, the reverse diamond is an experience the first time you meet one. Exit 407 on I-40 in TN is one....but it works quite well.

I think it is primarily a matter of familiarity. I had little experience with them and didn’t like them. Until I started traveling often for work to the northeast where they are fairly common. After a number of times thru them I realized they do work much better and more efficiently than stop signs or traffic signals.

I learned to handle roundabouts during a 2 week business trip to England. And those go in the wrong direction ! ??
We have a few in the next county. I am always cautious because I know not everyone is familiar with them.
The first year they were in use, there was actually more accidents, but they were far less severe (previously "red light runners" cause much more severe accidents).
A friend was in a fender bender on a roundabout. He clearly had the right of way and the other person actually was waiting at a Yield sign at the entrance to the roundabout. Her statement was "I let a bunch of cars go buy so I thought it was my turn".

We have way more signaled intersections than round-abouts. I ride a motorcycle most of the time when not towing and I am a very defensive driver because of it. If you get hit on a cycle, you will not do well on a bike against a cage driver.
I feel much safer going through the roundabouts than the signaled intersections. The people around here have developed the habit of running red lights so being on a bike requires constant attention. With roundabouts, you know that everyone is coming through without stopping.

NY and NJ have different rules about right of way entering a roundabout so areas near the state borders are slightly more chaotic than normal. An example is near the Bear Mtn Bridge just south of West Point.
I've been known to go around a couple times to be sure I pick the right exit.
