Same with our local large Ford dealer. Their nearly empty new truck lot had about 15 new trucks. Only 2 higher trim level. Normally they would have 100 or more.
I visited their web site and clicked on “value my trade” a few months ago. Returned KBB value was approx $30k. Tried it a couple days ago and it was over $37k. Great time to sell. But then what?

2021 SuperDuty, not a chance in hell
2022 SD order bank opened 3/15, and going into production 7/9. My chosen dealer effed me big time because their general manager "heard" something and effed up my order. So instead of being at the head of the line, I've been bumped back 2+ months on order scheduling.
SD trucks, no matter who the OEM are largely unobtanium right now. If you have one, then my best advise is to keep it.

I figure I've saved $160,000+ by keeping my truck.

Working as a tech. There is no way one of us or a service writer would give away a repair to he sales department unless the car wasn’t worth putting the money into.
With that said, dealers need used inventory so they are paying higher than they would have 6 months ago for a trade in, at the same time they have no new inventory and are trying to get top Dallas for what they have. It’s a wash as far as money goes.

We bought at the right time - 2015. Got 60K miles, and will have it for a while, a loooooooooooooooooooog while. Chevy 2500HD 6.0, 4:10, 4x4, XCab SB. Not a better truck on the road for our camping style. Paid a little over half what a new truck lists for today. We might never buy another truck.

Got me thinking. We are still working out if it's going to happen this year but we usually go overseas for 6-8 months in the winter.
If we were to sell in September, odds are the shortages should clear up by spring. That should put downward pressure on the used truck market as people who were hanging onto trucks buy new trucks leaving a glut of used trucks.
Might swing by a dealer in a couple months and see what they offer.
Just looked at similar trucks on craigslists and they are coming up 20-50% more than we paid for this one 4yrs ago.

Campinfan wrote: I keep getting offers from my dealer (in the mail) that I can trade my 2016 F350 for a 2021 for only $87 more a month (of course that is for many years). The blue book value is close to what I paid for it almost 5 years ago. But why would I do this? So I can trade it in and order a truck that will arrive who knows when? No thanks. I can't hook my fiver to my car so I need the truck.
I would do it if the newer one was a dual rear wheel, but I think thats the only reason I would trade my 2014 in.

Can we start a few more threads on the price of trucks right now?
Nobody is forcing you to buy. Nobody is forcing you to sell. If you can take advantage of the current market, though, take advantage of it. It won't last.
Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.
