We were last at Dinosaur NM for a few days in late October 2020. Definitely see the new quarry exhibit, but we also like many of the back roads. If you are staying in Vernal, check out the Split Mountain Campground. For back roads check with the park for current conditions, but I think some of them are OK for your short class C if you have experience driving back roads, go slow and use caution.

We have several posts on our blog from that visit, including McConkie Ranch petroglyphs.

If you don't mind some decent gravel road to reach a dry camping spot, Whiterocks CG in Ashley NF northwest of Vernal is pleasant.

The McK Ranch is right on a paved county road.

I should know this with all the research I do on various things, but why do they call it a dinosaur National Mounument?

Plan on spending some time in the Utah Field House of Natural History in Vernal. Maybe as interesting as the Quarry Exhibit Hall in the monument itself.

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, check out Nine Mile Canyon. Brochure It's a full day loop but lots of interesting Native Rock Art.

Because the area is loaded with dinosaur fossils and when you go to the field house you'll see thousands of fossils still embedded in rock.

Thanks, kind of what I was thinking. Just didn’t know the specifics of it.

Because it doesn’t rate being a National Park.
