I enjoy having a 1000 watt inverter as a back up. Doing so has saved my bacon more than once.

As a backup, yes, I carry an old Xantrex 1kw. But generally, cheap inverters don't make it more than a few years in regular service - depending on how hard you work them. At least that's been my experience.

You need to be careful with small cheap Inverters as the voltage produced probably won't be clean (not a sine wave) and can harm sensitive electronics.

Backup inverter s a good idea.

I have both a 2000w and 300w GoPower inverter in service. No backup. I would not consider either of these value priced.

I don't use a back up, if my inverter were to pack it in, I would just put away the electric coffe pot and pull out the stove top perculator, same with the toaster, and not watch tv I guess haha.. oh and the outdoor kitchen fridge would stop keeping the pop and beer cold so I would have to move some into the rv fridge.

There is a place for modified sine wave inverters. Some are even rated to run motors.
However, all my inverters are pure sine wave, and I do encourage their use.

So do pure sine wave. So much so that mine caught on fire. Poor design is the cause. The unit is a Magnum hybrid 3000 watt unit.
The typical numbers are 88% efficient. So when pushing to 3000 watts 360 watts of heat are being produced. That's about what my coffee pot draws.
